Back in May of last year it was announced that Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson were looking to reunite on Shanghai Dawn, a follow-up to 2000’s Shanghai Noon and 2003’s Shanghai Knights, and now Deadline is reporting that the project is moving forward under Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess.
The new film has been scripted by Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum from an original story by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, screenwriters of the first two movies. Spyglass Entertainment is producing the new instalment for MGM, while Millar and Gough will serve as executive producers.

While the first two movies were solid hits, neither set the box office alight, grossing a combined $187 million worldwide. However, Jackie Chan remains big business in China, which has quickly established itself as a huge market, and his last movie Skiptrace opened to an impressive $62.2 million.
