The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal (Everest) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) are in talks to co-star in the long-gestating project The Current War.
The script for the film has been doing the rounds for some time now, with the likes of Ben Stiller, Sacha Baron Cohen and Timur Bekmambetov linked to it at one time or another. But now it seems the combination of heavyweights Cumberbatch and Gyllenhaal may well get the project going after all.
THR also reports that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will direct the film, which tells the story of Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse’s discovery of the stable electric current. However, Gomez-Rejon is set to direct Collateral Beauty with Will Smith in the next few months, so The Current War may be a little way off just yet.
Gyllenhaal can currently be seen in Everest alongside Jason Clarke and Josh Brolin, while Cumberbatch co-stars with Johnny Depp in Black Mass.
