November 4, 2014 by James Garcia

Jake Gyllenhaal is gathering a ton of critical acclaim for his latest film, Nightcrawler (read our reviews here, here and here, along with our podcast about it here), and has already set his sights on his next project. According to Deadline, he’ll be reteaming with Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua for The Man Who Made It Snow.

Gyllenhaal will star as the Max Mermelstein, a Jewish hotel engineer who transforms Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel from “a small mom-and-pop drug organization into a billion-dollar enterprise.”

Written by Brett Tabor and Michael Kingston, the film is based on a true story and adapted from the late Mermelstein’s autobiography. Fuqua’s latest film, The Equalizer, is now in theaters while Southpaw, which stars Gyllenhaal as a boxer who rises to the top of his profession as his life crashes down around him. Gyllenhaal has been making a ton of smart, entertaining career choices lately, and we’re sure that will only continue with The Man Who Made It Snow.
