Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, directors of the Oscar-winning documentary feature Free Solo, are set to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in an as-yet-untitled adaptation of Jonas Bonnier’s book The Helicopter Heist, Deadline has revealed.
Scripted by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), the film will tell “the true story of how four young men from the Swedish suburbs, each of a different nationality, pulled off one of the most spectacular heists of all time with a a $5 million robbery using a stolen Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopter.”
In addition to starring, Gyllenhaal – who will soon be seen as Mysterio in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home – will produce the film with his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker along with ACE Content’s Evan Hayes (Free Solo).
