You can’t go a few weeks without having Jake Gyllenhaal attached to a new project, let alone another graphic novel adaptation, because following on from the news that he’d signed on to star in Robert Kirkman’s Oblivion Song, the Donnie Darko actor has joined Prophet, a superhero pic from the director of Extraction.
Prophet will be based on the Image comic book created by Rob Liefeld (Deadpool), and will be overseen by Studio 8, the production company behind Alpha, White Boy Rick, and the upcoming Ben Affleck film Hypnotic. Sam Hargrave, who has recently signed on to direct the sequel to his Chris Hemsworth starring Netflix hit Extraction, will work from a script by Legends of Tomorrow‘s Marc Guggenheim.
Prophet tells the story of John Prophet (Gyllenhaal), a poor and homeless man living in the World War II era, who volunteers to participate in the medical experiments of Dr. Horatio Wells, a time-traveling scientist from the future who used DNA-enhancing methods to transform Prophet into a super-soldier.
