With Marvel expected to announce its Phase Three plans at Comic-Con tomorrow, it seems we may be getting to see more of the Guardians of the Galaxy after the release of next week’s superhero space opera, with screenwriter Nicole Perlman telling The Wrap that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is happening, with James Gunn returning to direct.
“[Marvel] started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction. Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and people are excited about it, they’ll wanna do a sequel. So it’s going to happen. James will be directing Guardians 2, so he would also be writing Guardians 2.”
So, it looks like Marvel has plenty of faith in Gunn, and we’ll find out if it’s warranted when Guardians of the Galaxy arrives next week. Our review would suggest it is.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on July 31st in the UK and August 1st in North America, with a cast that includes Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C.
