James Gunn is not the type of filmmaker to do reshoots, and he’s letting it be known.
While speaking to fans on Threads, Gunn shared that as his 2025 Superman film enters post-production, he’s confident in what he has shot, and like his other movies, he’s not looking to do reshoots.
The filmmaker reveals his trick, “Over-prepare. Don’t start shooting until I have a finished script my whole team is happy with. Hire actors and department heads I know can do their jobs. Surround myself with people who will challenge me and not just yes-sir everything.”
“Ask myself daily – are there any small imperfections in the script or what we’re shooting that might end up feeling like huge imperfections when we cut the film together,” he adds.
This sentiment feels like a contrast to modern filmmaking, where movies are fixed until the last minute. Venom: The Last Dance is set for release in two months and is still having reshoots in NYC as late as last week. With Gunn’s filmmaking style, he doesn’t need to go in later to fix anything if he overpreps during pre-production and the actual shoot.
