James Gunn has left the world of the MCU behind, but he’s still fondly looking back at his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
During a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused, Gunn discussed what he would’ve done if he had stayed with Marvel Studios. It seems like there were plenty more Guardians stories to explore.
He reveals, “There are so many [Guardians projects I would have liked to explore]. The Ravagers show; I thought that could be a fun thing. The Legendary Star-Lord, honestly, frankly, we had a whole idea for that.”
Gunn adds, “And then Rocket And Groot – to be honest, Rocket and Groot is what Guardians 3 was. I wanted to do Rocket and Groot first, but then I was talked into doing Guardians 3 instead of Rocket and Groot, and that’s kind of – because I knew I needed to tell Rocket’s story.”
While he’s stepped away from Marvel, the DC Studios co-chair adds he’s “excited for them to go do whatever they want” with the Guardians. At the time of writing, there were no plans for the characters.
Gunn has the release of Creature Commandos he’s promoting, and he’s currently working on Superman post-production. The filmmaker is also developing the Supergirl film, Lanterns series, and a few more announced projects.
