James Gunn is having to debunk more stories about Superman than Perry White, with the latest concerning what kind of movie his upcoming DC relaunch Superman: Legacy will be.
It had been assumed that following the recasting of Henry Cavill, Gunn was going to be telling the story of a young Superman, with the DC head-honcho Tweeting “In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
However, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director took to Threads when a fan asked “So in Blue Beetle at least in the commercial Jaime knows who Superman is, and you’ve said Blue Beetle is in your DCU, so is your young Superman movie set in the past?”, to which Gunn responded “I was never making a ‘young Superman’ movie, just a Superman movie!”.
The official synopsis for Superman: Legacy states that the film “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
