Marvel Studios knows that going back to what worked in the past is key; just look at Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel to play Doctor Doom.
The studio’s latest nostalgia pull takes them back to Avengers: Age of Ultron, with James Spader returning to the MCU. The Hollywood Reporter confirms the actor is set for the WandaVision spin-off, an untitled Vision series.
Once titled VisionQuest, the series sees the android superhero searching for his purpose after dying in Avengers: Infinity War and being brought back by Wanda for their series. The series lost its working title (for now), but it is now being retooled by Terry Matalas, the beloved showrunner of Star Trek: Picard.
James Spader’s Ultron is deeply connected to Vision. The villain made his debut in the second Avengers film. He began as Tony Stark’s attempt to create a defense program but became too aware and eventually turned against humanity. He then made his own sentient being, which would later become Vision, before the pair faced off.
