Yesterday it was reported that horror sequel The Conjuring 2 has been pushed back to 2016, and now it seems we know the reason why, as Deadline is reporting that James Wan will return to direct once he’s finished work on the upcoming Fast & Furious 7. Meanwhile, New Line executive Toby Emmerich has also revealed that Warner Bros. has further plans for Wan, with the filmmaker being eyed for a DC movie…
“James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family,” states Emmerich. “He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one.”
Universal Pictures does have an option on Wan for another Fast & Furious movie, which would presumably follow The Conjuring 2, if and when the seventh instalment proves to be a monster hit. So, if we can expect Wan to be unavailable until around 2017, what odds on him reuniting with F&F star Dwayne Johnson for 2019’s Shazam movie? Or could Warner Bros. be looking at him for one of its other DC projects…
