For a lot of people Justice League has seemingly undone the good work of the DCEU’s trail blazing Amazonian, Wonder Woman. Aside from the lacklustre box-office returns, fans have been speculating about how it will shape the future of this troubled cinematic universe, with The Hollywood Reporter writing a think piece on the job that awaits James Wan’s in-the-can Jason Momoa blockbuster, Aquaman, which is set for release on Dec 21, 2018.
Most of the piece focuses on potential problems for the origin story, and what Amber Heard’s brief appearance as Mera means in terms of the source material, but what prompted the film’s director to take to Twitter was the sign off, which stated that “all James Wan and the rest of the Aqua-team needs to work out is how to have all the characters speak while underwater. There can’t be that many air bubbles under the sea after all.” To which he replied:-

It’s a confident, assured retort offered up by Wan, who must know the size of the task that awaits his DCEU outing, but it’s also another indication that this cinematic universe is yet to find an identity, especially if the movie immediately after Justice League is going to drop creative narrative devices that have only just been introduced.
What do you think? Are you an Aquafan, or has your reaction to Justice League put you off next year’s solo-outing?
