While it was a solid run, all good things must come to end, and it seems we could be heading towards the finale of The Conjuring Universe.
Though there are currently still more spinoffs like Annabelle and The Nun in the works, The Conjuring creator James Wan took time from promoting M3GAN to discuss the Warren-focused Conjuring movies, telling Collider that while he does love the franchise, the paranormal investigations of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren may come to a close after the next installment.
“Yeah, we are working on [The Conjuring 4] right now. With The Conjuring films, we are very precious about [them]. And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right and to make sure the emotion of the Warren stories that we want to tell, and moving into, and potentially wrapping up, we just want to make sure that it’s the right thing, the right story that we’re telling” says Wan.
Wan does note that this fourth and final film won’t necessarily be the end of the Warrens’ story however, adding: “We never know. You never know. We’ll see.”
We last saw The Warrens in 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the third installment in the mainline franchise and the seventh overall. The Nun 2 will be released on September 8th, 2023 while The Conjuring 4 is currently in development.
