Early in May, DC Entertainment announced that Aquaman director James Wan is developing a live-action Swamp Thing TV series for the upcoming DC Universe streaming service, where it will join the likes of Titans and Doom Patrol.
It’s been reported this week that the series is looking to begin production in the fall, and now That Hashtag Show has revealed that Wan is set to co-direct the pilot episode of Swamp Thing alongside Deran Sarafian. The latter has a wealth of TV experience, having directed episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI, Lost, House, Hemlock Grove, The Strain, Colony and The Exorcist.
Meanwhile, following on from the casting breakdowns for the show’s lead characters Alec Holland/Swamp Thing and Abby Arcane, the site has also offered up a description for supporting character Matthew Cable, who is “the sheriff of the town and former high school sweetheart to Abby Arcane. A good guy with anger issues.”
Furthermore, the outlet reports that casting is underway on a “smart, slick and cunning” villain, with the producers “looking to cast someone late-40s to late-50s in the mold of Lawrence Fishburne or Jeff Goldblum.” Although the specific character is unconfirmed, speculation suggests that this could be Swamp Thing’s arch-enemy Anton Arcane, or perhaps that of General Avery Carlton Sunderland.
With the project seemingly moving forward at pace, expect some official news very soon.
