Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Matthew Rhys (The Americans) and Ann Skelly (Red Rock) have been cast in the three-part BBC Two drama Death and Nightingales, which will reunite Dornan with The Fall creator Allan Cubitt.
Described as a story of love, betrayal, deception and revenge, Death and Nightingales takes place in 1885 over a 24-hour period and sees Skelly as Beth Winters, who decides to “join the charming Liam Ward (Dornan) to escape from her limited life and complex relationship with her Protestant landowner stepfather Billy (Matthew Rhys). As decades of pain and betrayal finally build to a devastating climax, Death And Nightingales sees a woman struggling to control her own destiny and will ultimately illuminate tensions that tear both families and nations apart.”
“I’m thrilled to be reunited with Allan and his brilliant scripts to play such an intriguing character like Liam Ward and to return to Northern Ireland and BBC Two,” said Dornan, who will next be seen on the big screen in the Marie Colvin biopic A Private War, and as Will Scarlet in Robin Hood.
