Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis is set to become the new Jessica Fletcher in Universal’s forthcoming Murder She Wrote movie.
According to Deadline the Knives Out star is returning to the world of murder-mystery to inherit the typewriter from the late Angela Lansbury. A script has been written by Dumb Money duo Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce alongside Amy Pascal.
Murder She Wrote ran for 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996, and starred Angela Lansbury (Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Beauty & the Beast) as Jessica Fletcher, a former high-school English teacher turned murder-mystery novelist, who turns fiction to fact by solving real life murders.
Lansbury’s final screen appearance was in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, in which she made a cameo appearance that paid homage to Jessica Fletcher. Next up for Curtis is a supporting role alongside Pamela Anderson in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl (read our review ★ ★ here), while production has just wrapped on Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday.
