Janina Gavankar to star opposite Ben Affleck in Torrance

October 18, 2018 by Ricky Church

Deadline has reported Janina Gavankar (Blindspotting) has begun final talks to star in the sports drama Torrance opposite Ben Affleck. If the deal goes through, she will take on the role of Affleck’s ex-wife in the film, which also stars Al Madrigal (Night School) and Sal Velez Jr. (Mayans M.C.).

Torrance, also known as The Has Been for the film’s working title, follows a former basketball all-star, played by Affleck, who has lost his wife and family foundation in a struggle with addiction. He attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a losing high school basketball team at his alma mater before his drinking gets the best of him.

The film will be directed by Gavin O’Connor, who also directed Affleck in The Accountant. O’Connor wrote the script with Brad Ingelsby (American Woman) with O’Connor and Affleck producing alongside Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray, Ravi D. Mehta, and Jennifer Todd for Warner Bros.

Gavankar’s other credits include the Sleepy Hollow television series, True Blood, White Orchid and the Star Wars: Battlefront II video game.
