Jared Harris has confirmed that he will not be playing the iconic villain Doctor Octopus in Morbius.
The trailer for the Spider-Man spin-off movie Morbius got a lot of people talking, not just because it confirmed the film’s presence in the MCU but also causing speculation that Jared Harris might be playing Doctor Octopus.
However, this rumour has been put to bed by the actor himself. Asked if he was playing the famous Spidey villain by Variety, the actor said: “No. I love the imagination that the fans have, it’s exciting for me to think about the imagination that fans have. But yeah no, it’s not.”

So it seems that fans will have to wait a little longer for Doctor Octopus’ return to the big screen. Surely it won’t be too long before Sony (or Marvel) decides to bring the villain back out to terrorise Spider-Man once more.
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
Morbius is set for release on July 31st 2020 and sees Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) as Dr. Michael Morbius, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Loxias Crown, Jared Harris (The Terror) as Morbius’ mentor, and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) as an FBI agent.
