Jared Leto talks Zack Snyder’s Justice League, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and Sony’s Morbius

January 3, 2021 by Gary Collinson

2021 is shaping up to be a pretty big year for Jared Leto on the comic book movie front; not only do we have the delayed release of Sony’s vampiric Marvel movie Morbius, but the Oscar-winner is also reportedly set to make his return as The Joker with a role in HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Leto was part of the additional photography on Justice League back in October, but speaking to Variety (via The Playlist), the actor refused to confirm his involvement, teasing that: “I may or may not be in this; I’ve heard the rumors too. We’ll have to let Zack confirm or deny that one [Editor’s Note – he already has]. I may or may not have shot something with Zack, but I love him, he’s just a maverick and an incredible filmmaker; we get along great and have great chemistry.”

Leto then went on to lend his support to director David Ayer, who has been pushing hard on social media to get to work on ‘The Ayer Cut’ of their 2016 collaboration Suicide Squad:

“I would love for him to be able to work on that and make the film of his dreams. It’s always hard when you make these movies because it’s such a pressure cooker. There are so many decisions that have to be made in a short amount of time. You never start with something that’s perfect. It’s a race to try to make it as good as you can in a short amount of time. And having another swing at things? I’m sure we all can use that.”

Finally, Leto also addressed his upcoming first foray into the world of Marvel with Sony’s Morbius movie, stating that: “I get to play three different characters in this Jekyll and Hyde story that’s just big and fun, and sometimes is a little scary, which is, I think, different for that genre.  And I’m excited about it. That should be a big, fun popcorn movie.”
