Jeffrey Wright is gearing up for the world to his performance as Jim Gordon in the upcoming Matt Reeves’ film The Batman. The movie debuts next year, and the actor is already adding to the hype train.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wright discussed some of his upcoming roles. He’s voicing The Watcher in Marvel’s What If series while also jumping ship to DC to star as Gordon opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne/Batman. During the sit-down with THR, Wright opened up the filming of The Batman, talking bout the brutal production and the film’s tone.
“It was gothic. It was sleuthful, if that’s a word. It was mysterious, and it was tricky. It was tricky because of the conditions that we were working in,” says Wright to THR.
“It was isolating for those of us who were away from home, out of the country, over in London. I experienced more quarantines than I would wish on anyone, going back and forth over the last six months. So it was a pretty dogged one to try to pull off. But what I will say about it too is that it was really gratifying because we all unified around that purpose of doing our jobs, making this film, protecting one another, and getting through it together. And we did.”
He concludes with, “I think we made a brilliant movie, and we did it as a collective that came together as one.”
The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.
The Batman is due out on March 4th, 2022.
