Earlier this year, it was announced that director Tim Burton is set to make his long-awaited television debut for a series in the world of The Addams Family which will focus on Wednesday Addams.
According to Collider, Jenna Ortega has been cast in the titular role for the eight-episode series which is created by Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar, who also serve as the showrunners. Ortega’s credits include Netflix’s You, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Yes Day, and the upcoming fifth instalment in the Scream franchise.
Wednesday is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a Nevermore Academy student. She attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Burton will make his TV directing debut as well as executive produce alongside Andrew Mittman of 1.21 (The Addams Family), Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania (Respect), Steve Stark (Medium), Kayla Alpert (Code Black), Gail Berman (Alphas) and Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, as well as Gough and Millar.
