Jennifer Connelly is to follow-up her role in the all-conquering Top Gun: Maverick by teaming up with Joel Edgerton in Apple’s science-fiction series Dark Matter.
Connelly’s current small-screen venture will be coming to an end when TNT’s Snowpiercer pulls into its final stop at the end of season 4, and Deadline has revealed that she will then take a lead role in the previously announced adaptation of Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel.
At one stage intended to be a Roland Emmerich blockbuster, Dark Matter is the story of a college physics professor (played by Joel Edgerton) who lives a normal family life in Chicago. One night while walking home he is knocked out by a masked abductor and wakes up in a world he doesn’t know in which his wife is not his wife, his son was never born, and he’s a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable and impossible — his theory has become a fully-realized technology for inter-dimensional transfer. He must then embark on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself. Connelly has signed on to play Daniela, his wife.
Fast X and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance helmer Louis Leterrier will direct the first four episodes, while Blake Crouch will write the script and act as showrunner for the nine-episode adaptation.
