The Wrap is reporting that Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to play Martita Lorenz, a former lover of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in Sony Pictures romantic spy drama Marita.
The film will tell the story of Lorenz, “a German woman who had an affair with Castro in 1959 when she was just 19. After having an abortion and leaving Cuba, she was recruited by the CIA to take part in an assassination attempt on Castro’s life, though her feelings for the communist leader got in the way of her completing her mission.”
Marita has been written by Eric Warren Singer, screenwriter of American Hustle. The film will be produced by Lawrence, along with Matt Tolmach, Andre Rouleau and Scott Mednick.
