DC Studios has some casting shakeups with their Luca Guadagnino-helmed Sgt. Rock as THR has revealed titular character will no longer be Daniel Craig, who has stepped away as the star.
While no set reason is given, there are rumblings Craig soured on the role and doing a follow-up with Guadagnino after awards contender Queer fizzled out.
It was also noted that Craig could be facing scheduling conflicts with his wife, actress Rachel Weisz. Nothing will be confirmed, but Guadagnino and DC Studios are looking for a replacement as soon as possible.
With a summer production start being eyed, actor Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) has been named as a contender for the role. Jeff Sneider has noted that White could be a bit pricey and has quite a busy slate ahead of him, including his role as Rotta the Hutt in Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Sgt. Rock comes from screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, who previously worked with Guadagnino on Challengers and Queer. Guadagnino is no stranger to adaptations as he previously tackled a remake of the cult classic 70s horror film Suspiria.
