As Marvel continue to mourn the loss of Spider-Man following a breakdown in negotiations between Sony and Disney, Jeremy Renner has become the first Marvel Cinematic Universe star to publicly call out the studio and issue a plea to the powers that be to keep Tom Holland’s web-slinger as part of the MCU.

Marvel and Sony’s original deal to bring Spidey into the MCU ran for five films – Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home – the latter of which has become Sony’s most successful movie ever.
When word broke that the two corporations had failed to agree on an extension, fans laid much of the blame at Sony’s feet, speculating that the plan was to bring Holland’s Spider-Man into the studio’s fledgling Universe of Marvel Characters, which launched last year with Venom. However, Sony quickly issued a rebuttal, claiming that the decision was down to Disney and that the Mouse House didn’t want Marvel’s Kevin Feige to be spending working on another company’s IP following the recent acquisitions of Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four.
