A while back Disney plotted a new course for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, one which had Margot Robbie at the wheel, taking the long-running blockbuster film series into uncharted territory with a wholly original new story. Now franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has shed some light on what they have mapped out for the movie.
While doing the rounds for Top Gun: Maverick (watch our video review here), producer Jerry Bruckheimer took his head out of the clouds and turned his attention to the high seas to reveal to The Sunday Times that they have two Pirates of the Caribbean movies in the works. When pressed on the state of the Margot Robbie sequel he confirmed that “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts – one with her, one without.”
Now that Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow has been made to walk the plank, the new Pirates movie intends to set sail with Margot Robbie as the new Captain of the high seas, reuniting her with Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson. The other script mentioned is believed to be a reboot of the original series, which will see previous Pirates writer Ted Elliott team with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.
