When Jessica Chastain peers into the darkness it usually results in a memorable horror, so the news that she’s teaming with The Host director Rob Savage for a new tale of terror sends chills of excitement down the spine.
According to Deadline, the Mama and It: Chapter Two Oscar winner has signed on to star in an adaptation of Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman.
Succession‘s Nathan Elston will write the script, which focuses on an eight-year-old girl named Bela, who discovers that an evil entity called “Other Mommy” is living in her closet, and it wishes to “go inside her heart”. Chastain will play the mother of the family, who struggles to keep everyone safe as the incidents around the house escalate.
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse will produce Incidents Around the House alongside Spin a Black Yarn for Universal Pictures.
Savage, who broke out with lockdown horror The Host, is coming off the back of success with similar haunted house fare The Boogeyman, which frightened up almost $70 million at the worldwide box-office in 2023. He was recently linked with another Nathan Elston project, Molepeople.
