Warning. Minor Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye spoilers follow…
With Marvel’s Netflix stars now starting to make their return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Fist actress Jessica Henwick revealed recently that she’d been offered the opportunity to dive back into the MCU – albeit not as Colleen Wing, but rather Shang-Chi’s sister Xialing in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Henwick ultimately passed on the role in favour of The Matrix Resurrections, and during an interview with THR, the actress has revealed that one of the factors was the fact that it would also shut the door on a potential Colleen Wing return – although at this point, she isn’t holding her breath for that to happen.
“That definitely did come up in the discussion,” said Henwick. “If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn’t the main factor [for passing on the role], but it definitely came up in. I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don’t know how likely that is. Charlie [Cox] knew about that opportunity years ago. He already knew it was happening. I think I would have heard by now if there were any plans with Colleen.”
While there’s been countless rumours over the past couple of years surrounding the return of the likes of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, it’s been deathly silent when it comes to Iron Fist and its cast. That’s not too surprising given how poorly the show was received, but Henwick’s portrayal of Colleen was definitely one of the few high points of the series.
