A few days ago it was reported that <strong>Jessica Jones’ second season has begun production in New York City, and now we can add a new cast member to the show’s sophmore season. Netflix and Marvel Entertainment have announced Tumbleweed‘s Janet McTeer has joined the series in a mystery role. Her character, however, will be someone who has had an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.
“We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast,” said Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer, Jeph Loeb. “Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”
“We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season,” said series creator and Executive Producer, Melissa Rosenberg. “Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”

Jessica Jones will return in August in The Defenders, Netflix’s crossover series between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist (watch a teaser here). She won’t return to her proper series, though, until 2018. The Punisher is also due to hit Netflix later this year, while Daredevil will begin production on its third season soon as well.
Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg added executive producer and writer Raelle Tucker (The Returned) to the mix for the next season, replacing Liz Friedman. Additionally, Rosenberg stated in October 2016 that all upcoming 13 episodes will be directed by women.
