Showrunner and executive producer Melissa Rosenberg has revealed that the second season of Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones will be directed entirely by women.
Rosenberg made the announcement at the Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment conference on Friday, with Variety reporting that she had initially wanted to increase the number of female directors on the second season, before someone suggested the idea of only booking women. For comparison, the first season of the show employed nine directors in total, and only three were women (S. J. Clarkson, Rosemary Rodriguez and Uta Briesewitz).
Rosenberg also went on to reveal that they are in the middle of completing the scripts for season two, and that filming will get underway next year after Krysten Ritter links up with Charlie Cox, Mike Colter and Finn Jones for The Defenders.
