It’s fair to say that despite the inventive fun of the Happy Death Day franchise, those films wouldn’t be half as good as they are without Jessica Rothe, the axe and one-liner wielding star of Christopher Landon’s horror hits. So while the news that Samara Weaving has had to exit the lead in the Sam Raimi-produced revenge action-fantasy Boy Kills World is disappointing, the fact Rothe has stepped in should make this a project worth keeping an eye on.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rothe will be joining a cast that includes Bill Skarsgard (Stephen King’s IT), martial arts master Yayan Ruhian (John Wick 3), Andrew Koji (Snake Eyes) and Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two), in the Sam Raimi and Roy Lee produced action film.
Rothe will play an assassin named June 27 in Boy Kills World, which is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality. Boy is a deaf-mute with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, Boy escapes to the jungle and is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.”
Production on Boy Kills World gets underway in South Africa this February. Let us know what you think of this casting and the synopsis by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
