Jim Broadbent reveals his Game of Thrones role

March 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in August of last year it was revealed that Jim Broadbent will be appearing in a “significant role” in the upcoming seventh season of Game of Thrones, although his role was being kept tightly under wraps.

Despite all of the secrecy surrounding the show, Broadbent has been taking a leaf out of Ian McShane’s book, spilling some details on his involvement in an interview with ScreenCrush.

“I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character,” said Broadbent, before revealing that he’;ll be appearing in five of the seven episodes alongside John Bradley’s Samwell Tarly.

The news isn’t entirely surprising; a casting breakdown had pegged Broadbent as “a venerable priest with moral authority and gravitas”, which led fans to assume that we’d be seeing him at the Citadel in Old Town.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its seventh season this summer.
