Jim Carrey is set to take on the role of David Scott Ghannt, the man who orchestrated one of the biggest bank heists in history, in Jared Hess’ (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) new movie Loomis Fargo.
Reports by Variety suggest that Carrey is in line to play Ghannt , a driver and vault supervisor at Loomis Fargo and Company who assembled a crew (Ocean Eleven style) with the aim to steal $17.3 million from the vault of the regional office in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 4, 1997. An international FBI manhunt ultimately resulted in the arrest and conviction of eight people directly involved in the heist, as well as 16 others who had indirectly helped them, and the recovery of approximately 95% of the stolen money.
The screenplay for Loomis Fargo has been worked on several times, with Emily Spivey originally writing the script and subsequent rewriters from Jody Hill (Observe and Report), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down) and most recently by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. Jim Carrey is currently filming Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, where he plays Colonel Stars, and he is also set to star alongside fellow funny man Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) and Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy) in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
