Back in May it was revealed that Warner Bros. and DC had signed original co-writer and director Todd Phillips to pen a sequel to the 2019’s Joker, and now, the lead actor of the film has addressed this months old report.
During an interview with The Playlist to promote his role in Mike Mills’ new drama Cmon Cmon, Joaquin Phoenix has stated that while he is open to returning as the Joker, he is currently unsure whether or not the project will enter development.
“I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to —you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”
While Phoenix is unsure about the future of the project, it is hard to imagine that Warner Bros. and DC are not trying to get a sequel off the ground after the original film won several Academy Awards and became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time by earning over a billion dollars at the box office.
