For several years now we’ve heard rumours and speculation suggesting that the X-Men could appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this only intensified following the deal between Sony and Marvel to Spider-Man into the fold – not to mention the partnership between Marvel and Fox to develop various X-Men TV projects.
The latest rumour came back in June, when it was alleged that discussions have taken place between Marvel and Fox, with the latter said to be open to the idea. However, if there is any truth to the report, it’s news to Captain America: Civil War co-director Joe Russo.
“As far as we know, right now there isn’t talk regarding the X-Men,” said Russo, who is currently prepping Avengers: Infinity War with his brother Anthony. “I don’t know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven’t heard of any. Sony and Marvel had a relationship through Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal and through us and Amy. That’s really how Spider-Man came about. It requires a certain alchemy and a very special situation for studios to share properties. There was not talk on Civil War about the X-Men.”
