Fresh from the news last week about a new Escape from New York Blu-ray release, word has reached Deadline that Snake Plissken will be returning to the big screen in a new remake.
News has emerged that 20th Century Fox has won the remake rights to John Carpenter’s cult 1981 action sci-fi film about a dystopian future where eye-patched convict Plissken (Kurt Russell) is sent into a maximum security prison built on what used to be Manhattan to rescue the President.
While a remake of a beloved classic never goes down well with fans, their anger may be cooled somewhat by the presence of John Carpenter, who has come on board as an executive producer.
There have been a few attempts over recent years to remake the film, with Joel Silver (The Matrix) at one point attached to produce, before New Line Cinema and Breck Eisner (The Crazies) were considering making it. Len Wiseman (Underworld) was also reported to have tried to bring Plissken back to the screen, with Gerald Butler (Olympus Has Fallen) attached to play the lead.
No other word on any release dates or director, but we shall keep you updated on any new information once we get it.
