Last month it was announced that John Cena will re-team with The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn for a brand-new series on HBO Max which will focus on Cena’s Peacemaker character.
Now, according to Deadline, the HBO Max series has cast James Gunn regular Steve Agee, who is standing in for King Shark during production in the same way Sean Gunn stood in for Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy, but he won’t be reprising his role as King Shark. Agee will be reprising his other The Suicide Squad role as John Economos, a character who is a warden of Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary and an aide to Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
Agee has previously worked with James Gunn on four other projects including The Suicide Squad, Super, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the horror feature film Brightburn which was produced by Gunn and directed by David Yarovesky.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, we do know the Peacemaker series will run for eight episodes and will be an action-adventure comedy that will focus on the origins of Peacemaker, “a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.”
