John Krasinski cut flashback scenes from A Quiet Place

April 11, 2018 by Samuel Brace

John Krasinski, the director and star of A Quiet Place, cut flashback scenes from the hit horror movie.

A Quiet Place is rather loudly taking the box office by storm. The dystopian film starring Krasinski and wife Emily Blunt has made more than $50 from its opening weekend.

Krasinski also directed the movie and we have now learned from one of the film’s producers, Andrew Form, that the film’s script initially contained interesting flashbacks. Form revealed to THR that during his rewrites, Krasinski decided to remove these elements and focus on the present:

“Initially, there were flashbacks where the characters talked. Also, the sibling’s death was handled in a flashback. John was adamant that we get rid of it, making it present day and kept the urgency of the storytelling.”

It can be quite easy in films of this nature to try and explain events via the use of flashbacks, helping audiences to understand how the world has become the way it is. So it’s interesting that Krasinski took this path, a decision which seems to have paid off, going by critics’ reviews and audiencPoste reaction.

What do you think? Would you like to have seen the mentioned flashbacks, or do you think A Quiet Place likely benefited from the director’s script changes?
