John Malkovich has been added to the awkwardly named thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, in which Zac Efron will play the leading role as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
The Con Air actor is set to play Judge Edward Cowert, who presided over Bundy’s trial in 1979 and sentenced him to death. Prior to his execution in 1989, Bundy confessed to the murder of 30 people in seven different states.
Variety revealed Malkovich has been cast in the movie, adding another top-flight name to the roster of talent.
The story of Bundy will be told from the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins. Kloepfer was Bundy’s long-time girlfriend, but had no knowledge of her boyfriend’s dark side.
Joe Berlinger (Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) is directing the film from a Black List screenplay by Michael Werwie, with shooting set to begin next week.
