John Noble, who gave an incredible performance as an eccentric but damaged genius on five seasons of Fringe, will now play the father of another enigmatic intellectual, on CBS’ Elementary.
According to THR, Noble has joined the series’ upcoming fourth season as the wealthy and estranged father on Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller). He’ll make his debut in the season four premiere, when he arrives in New York to “deal with the aftermath of his son’s recent relapse.”
The elder Holmes has been mentioned on the series previously, as he was responsible for pairing Sherlock with Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) after his stint in rehab in season one.
Series creator/producer Robert Doherty expressed his excitement about working with Noble in the following statement:
“We could not be more delighted to have John Noble taking on such an important role. We’ve enjoyed his work for many years now – especially his tremendous run on Fringe – and cannot wait to see him opposite Jonny and Lucy. It’s going to be an exciting season.”
Elementary will return to CBS this fall, on Thursday nights at 10 p.m.
