Although the release date for John Wick: Chapter 4 was pushed back by Lionsgate from May 2020 to May 2022, it sounds like the John Wick franchise could once again enter production this year.
In an interview with Collider, Ian McShane, who plays Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, revealed that while there is no specific production start date as of right now, it seems likely that the fourth instalment of the John Wick series could begin filming later this year.
“Keanu [Reeves] and I exchanged New Year’s greetings and said, ‘Hope to see you this year.’ I know the script is being written and they’re hoping to do it this year. I know they announced they were gonna do [John Wick 4‘] and [John Wick 5] together, but who knows. The studios announce all sorts of things. No doubt, at some point this year, we’re gonna do John Wick 4.”
While plot details are being kept under wraps, it’s safe to assume that Chapter 4 will pick up after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum with Keanu Reeves’ John Wick aiming to get revenge against McShane’s Winston and The Adjudicator for teaming up and repeatedly shooting him which caused him to fall off the roof at the end of the film.
In addition to Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, the John Wick franchise to set to expand even further with a spin-off movie titled Ballerina, and a prequel television spin-off titled The Continental.
