John Wick: Chapter 4 really does elevate the action to a whole other level, and it looks as though the Keanu Reeves sequel is going to have the box-office receipts to match, with the news that it’s set to open with a franchise best $115 million.
We called it “a relentless gauntlet of mayhem” in our ★★★★★ review (which you can read here), and it appears that box-office analysts agree, because they’re tracking Keanu Reeves’ final (?) outing as John Wick for a $65M-$70M domestic opening, with a further $45 million overseas. That would give the Lionsgate/Thunder Road Films/87 Eleven’s Chad Stahelski directed sequel a series best $115 million opening.
Those figures are amazing when you consider that the original John Wick tapped out with $43 million domestic in 2014, and struggled to secure international distribution for months, eventually finishing its run with $86 million worldwide. Now, almost a decade later and with double the run-time, John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to put Shazam! Fury of the Gods (estimated 60% dip for a $12 million frame) out of its misery and dominate the weekend box-office.
