THR is reporting that Alcon Media has tapped John Wick creator Derek Kolstad to write and executive produce a live-action TV series adaptation of Battle Chasers, the independent fantasy comic book from writer and artist Joe Madureira.
“As a storyteller — as well as a super fan of unapologetic and unrelenting action — I can’t wait for people to feel as giddy as I did when I first laid eyes on Battle Chasers,” said Kolstad. “The world which Joe has created here, coupled with the characters therein, is both unique and yet familiar. Adapting this for the small screen is gonna be a jon.”
“I connected deeply to this material 20 years ago when I first picked up Joe’s comic book, and so to be part of bringing this exciting material to a new audience is thrilling to say the least,” added Alcon TV’s Ben Roberts, who will produce the series along with Adrian Askarieh (Hitman).
Launching in 1998, Battle Chasers was plagued with scheduling issues and ran for just nine issues, ending with a cliffhanger in 2001 when Madureira left the comic book industry to work as a video game designer. The video game Battle Chasers: Nightwar was released in 2017, while Madureira revealed earlier this year that he is looking to finally wrap up the story with three additional issues slated to arrive in 2022.
