In addition to the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 3 and Dynamite Entertainment’s comic book series, Lionsgate has plans to bring the world of John Wick to the small screen with a prequel TV series.
According to IndieWire, the project is going by the title The Continental, referring to the chain of hotels featured in the movie, and the movies’ director Chad Stahelski has offered a few details on the focus on the project.
“It’s very tied to the film [in that] it’s about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool. I think the world is very vast, and everything I’ve heard from it is very positive. It’s something that [Lionsgate] seems very, very intent on [making] and very, very behind.”
“I like telling stories from my one character’s perspective,” he continued. “Once you put that aside with the TV show, [you can] expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey. You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier — you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I’m a little limited [from exploring] by staying with my lead guy.”
And as for whether we’ll be seeing Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in the series, Stahelski responded that: “I think he would make an appearance. I think that’s part of his thing. [But the series] isn’t centered around John Wick.”
Before we get to a potential series, we have John Wick: Chapter 3 to look forward to, and it’s been reported this month that screenwriter Derek Kolstad has closed a deal to pen the script, with Lionsgate hoping to begin shooting later in the year.
