The Griswolds are heading to HBO Max, with Deadline reporting that the WarnerMedia-owned streaming service has ordered a single-camera half hour comedy series based upon National Lampoon’s Vacation series.
Written by Tim Hobert (The Middle) and produced by The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki, the series will explore daily life in the Chicago suburbs for Clark W. Griswold, wife Ellen, and kids Rusty and Audrey, in between their rather disastrous family trips.
Based on a John Hughes short story, Vacation was released in 1983 and saw Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo starring as parents Clark and Ellen. It spawned the sequels European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation, along with a 2015 reboot/sequel where Ed Helms took on the role of a now adult Rusty.
Galecki does of course have history with the series, having portrayed of Rusty Griswold in 1989’s Christmas Vacation alongside Juliette Lewis as sister Audrey.
