In more casting news for the anticipated sequel Joker: Folie À Deux, Deadline reports Brendon Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes) has joined Todd Phillips’ follow-up to the 2019 smash hit Joker.
Gleeson will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, who will be reprising his role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, and pop star Lady Gaga, who is set to play Harley Quinn in the film. Zazie Beetz will also return from the first film, reprising her role as Arthur’s former neighbour and romantic obsession Sophie. There is no word yet as to who Gleeson will play.
The first Joker was a huge success for Warner Bros. and DC, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and earning Joaquin Phoenix an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Joker: Folie À Deux will begin production in December ahead of an October 4th, 2024 release date.
