Adonis Creed may have found his next competitor as Deadline reports Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft County) is in talks to join Creed III as Creed’s new nemesis.
While likely, the deal has not yet been finalized as MGM and Michael B. Jordan are working through Majors’ busy schedule. He is set to star in Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania as the Marvel villain Kang The Conqueror, Jeymes Samuel’s Western action drama The Harder They Fall and JD Dillard’s Korean War drama Devotion with Majors playing Korean War veteran and US aviator Jesse Brown.
With Jordan set to reprise his role as Adonis Creed and make his directorial debut with the film, it looks to be an exciting entry in the Creed franchise, though will also mark a turning point. Rocky star Sylvester Stallone, who reprised his famous role as Rocky Balboa for the two previous Creed films as he mentored and coached Adonis, will not be returning for Creed III. It is unknown how Rocky’s absence will be explained, but Majors’ challenge will leave Adonis without his mentor and friend by his side.
Aside from Lovecraft County, Majors has also starred in Joe Talbot’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, both films he received a great amount of critical acclaim.
Creed III will be directed by Michael B. Jordan from a script written by Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler, brother of the director of the first Creed movie, Ryan Coogler. The film will see Jordan reprising the role of Adonis Creed alongside the returning Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad. It is currently scheduled for a Thanksgiving 2022 release.
