While he’s yet to announce his next feature film project after dropping out of DC Films’ planned Batgirl movie, Joss Whedon is set for a return to the small screen to executive produce the half-hour comedy series Pippa Smith: Grown-Up Detective for Freeform.
Created by Siobhan Thompson (Bad Interest) and Rebecca Drysdale (Baskets), the dark comedy “follows Pippa Smith, a twenty-something former kid sleuth, as she deals with relationships, addiction and being too dang old for the detecting game. Each episode, Pippa solves a new case, while unraveling a bigger mystery and attempting to navigate a messy personal life.”
Whedon does of course have a wealth of experience on TV, creating the beloved series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, along with spinoff series Angel and cult sensation Firefly. He also currently serves as executive producer on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a spinoff from 2012’s superhero blockbuster The Avengers.
