Over the past couple of years, it seems that if a new TV show hasn’t been adapted from a movie, then there’s a strong likelihood that it’s actually a revival or a reboot of an old series (see The X-Files, 24, Full House, Prison Break, Gilmore Girls, Will & Grace, Twin Peaks et al).
Naturally, this has led to a lot of speculation as to which other shows could be set for a return to the air, but any Freaks and Geeks fans out there wondering if Judd Apatow and Paul Feig might be keen on dusting off the comedy-drama for a second season are probably going to be disappointed with Apatow’s response to that very question.
“I don’t want to do more Freaks and Geeks because we liked how it ended, so I feel it’s unwrapping something and seeing if you can not screw it up; I don’t think we would do that,” said Apatow at the Television Critics Association winter press tour (via Deadline). “Also, the world has changed so much. Back then in 1999, we were talking about the pre-computer and cellphone age that was before YouTube, Google, Snapchat. I don’t close the door on anything but my inclination is that we said all we had to say.”
Freaks and Geeks featured a cast that included Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Busy Philipps, Samm Levine and Martin Starr. Despite critical acclaim and a rabid following amongst fans, the show struggled in the ratings and was cancelled midway through its first and only season.
