After the hugely successful Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the follow-up Jumanji: The Next Level both critically and financially, a third film is most likely set to enter production in the future.
Now, in a recent interview with NME, director Jake Kasdan has strongly hinted that the four main cast members (Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan) who play the Jumanji game avatars, could return for a fourth instalment in the franchise.
“The whole thing, to me, is built on the foundation of those people. The game cast are these brilliant movie stars, these iconic people,” Kasdan says.
Although Kasdan didn’t give a definitive yes to the question regarding the main four characters returning for another sequel, it’s hard to interpret this answer as anything but a yes. As for the real-life characters who play as the avatars – Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain – Kasdan continued to say how “brilliant” they are and “it’s hard to imagine a Jumanji movie” without Alex Wolff.
“The thing that’s easy to not fully appreciate in the mix of how they work is that the kids are just brilliant,” Kasdan said. “And Alex Wolff in particular just really… he plays that character in such a funny, smart way. He’s quietly a really essential part of it.”
Although a fourth instalment in the Jumanji franchise hasn’t been officially announced by Sony Pictures as of yet, Kasdan said he and his team are in the “very earliest” stages of development on the sequel.
